This article explores the life of Katokpa Sönam Gyeltsen (kaḥ thog pa bsod nams rgyal mtshan) based on his autobiography titled Dri med yid bzhin nor bu'i phreng ba (Rosary of Stainless Wish-fulfilling Jewels). The article begins with a brief history of the abbots of the famous Katog (kaḥ thog) monastery in eastern Tibet, and a clarification of the identities of several of these figures. The article then focuses on Sönam Gyeltsen's autobiography with special attention to his account of activities in Bhutan and Sikkim. (Ben Deitle 2006-02-13)
