Abstract: (Show)
"Action research was used to investigate the effect of social and emotional learning (SEL) of students who misbehaved and were sent to the detention room at a county technical high school. The modified text "Emotional Literacy in the Middle School" a 6-step program to promote social, emotional and academic learning by Marvin Maurer and Marc A. Brackett was used to implement fourteen lessons. Although one to three lessons was not enough to have an effect on students behavior or academics over the long term there was a change in student attitude and demeanor between the start of a lesson and the end, from hostile, angry, and defiant to a more open and friendly atmosphere at the close. Follow up interviews with teachers found short term positive changes in classroom behavior."
