Abstract:

The article attempts to clarify an understanding of Dorjé Chang (rdo rje 'chang, Vajradhara). Recognized as the first member of the Shangpa Kagyü (shangs pa bka' brgyud) lineage, ideas about Vajradhara as a symbol for the source of Shangpa Kagyü doctrine are questioned.
