Abstract: (Show)

This chapter from the book Modern Psychology and Ancient Wisdom: Psychological Healing Practices from the World's Religious Traditions offers a Buddhist approach to psychotherapy using the contemplative practices of mindfulness and maitri (loving-kindness), as they are found, at least in part, in the Vajrayāna ("Diamond Vehicle") tradition of Tibetan Buddhism. The author uses clinical examples to show how mindfulness can help with anxiety disorders and other psychological problems and lead the individual to the development of deep sense of balance and "brilliant sanity."
