<p>The article attempts to recharacterize the ideas of the Sino-Tibetan relationship. Recognizing the patron-priest paradigm as unsatisfactory, Dawa Norbu investigates how this classification requires assumptions based on Western legal conceptions, as well as assumptions about the religiosity of Chinese emperors.
