<p>The article is concerned with Tibetan herdsmen of Langtang, an east-west running Himalayan valley which lies in north central Nepal. It discusses herding and socio-economic change among Langtang Tibetans. It describes the winter and summer herding system of Langtang with a list of names of herding groups and territory. It includes a description of a cheese factory located next to Kyangin Gompa in Langtang. The author argues that the symbolic importance of livestock in Langtang is reflected not only by the wide variety of livestock associated rituals, but also by the existence of a ritual code of behavior of people towards animals.
