This article bridges the notion of ‘strategic thinking’ within Jane Austen’s work with the core ideals of game theory, referring to the ways in which humans make predictions on the rational choices of other people in order to personally make goal-directed rational choices. The article suggests how reading these novels enhance theory of mind skills as it provides an opportunity to act more fruitfully if one aims to understand how others think and feel, which may ultimately predicts how they will act.
